“Midsommar” The Corner Laughers
Local indie pop-rockers release a sunshiny single that’s perfect for summertime play on KZSU. This is the first release from the band’s upcoming 4th album, which won’t be available until 2015. The band’s connection to KZSU and Stanford goes deep — they’ve appeared on WNL and one band member is a Stanford staffer. The Corner Laughers’ most recent album (“Poppy Seeds” – 2012) had all sorts of references to the Bay Area — from the Transamerica Pyramid and Buster Posey to College Terrace, the Aquarius Theatre and the Fountain restaurant right here in Palo Alto. Based on the “Midsommar” single, it sounds like the band will be taking its future flights of fantasy farther afield — to Europe, the Middle East and beyond. Official release date for the digital single is 6/17/14.

1. (3:46) Midsommar – Light and breezy indie pop-rock with a relaxed tempo, perfect for long, leisurely summer days. The catchy melody features the band’s trademark layered harmonies over a dynamic rhythm track and busy bass line. Singer/songwriter Karla Kane’s vocals sparkle. She also shines on the ukulele, while KC Bowman adds some nice guitar licks in the second lead break. *****
