Total early 60s novelty rock & roll flashback, completely in the tradition of songs from that era that conflate teen love plots with monster stories. I could see these guys opening for King Khan and the Shrines. Ridiculous, lively, raw, fun—this hits all the right buttons. It’s excellent from start to finish; play anything here and you won’t go wrong. I’m looking directly at you, Hervey Okkles. No FCCs detected.
1. (0:57)—Campy, creepy organ intro, awesome spoken word.
2. (2:59)—Mid-tempo R&B surf bounce. Breakdown at the end. Charming.
3. (1:56)—Fast, riotous rock & roll—going toward 60s garage punk.
4. (4:04)—Slow breakup R&B. Great energetic male-female duet!
5. (2:34)—Medium-fast, shambolic. Another campy intro, gang choruses.
6. (4:02)—Slow, sultry boogie—in the vein of Howlin’ Wolf. Nice backup vocals.
7. (2:53)—Mid-tempo, poppy. Chiming, searing guitars. Continues the phantom saga that began with the first two tracks.
8. (2:23)—Fast, rollicking 12-bar-blues party music.
9. (3:19)—Slow, sad, ominous, energetic R&B waltz.
10. (2:19)—Fast, surfy, instrumental save for the intro: “Say, man, you got alligators in your swimming pool!”
11. (2:53)—Mid-tempo soulful strut. Spoken word bridge.
