A snazzy modern hardbop sextet delivering a solid, sophisticated and thoughtful release. Trumpeter/composer/arranger Weiss dedicates this to bassist Dwayne Burno who passed away just a week after this was recorded. In many ways this disc revolves around the theme of loss. (Read the notes for insight into what inspired the recording.) But this is not a depressing

*1. Bright uptempo bop with great horn trills and strident percussion.
2. Warm, starts lowkey but picks up. Some cool interplays.
3. Relaxed w/horn & perc alternating interplay with counterpoint.
*4. Slow, then fast & furious. Great showcase for alto sax. Yow!
*5. Fast and complex showcase for the band. Great composition.
6. Relaxed, reflective, meandering track w/some nice horn work
7. Starts slow, picks up speed and power. Nicely unpredictable.
*8. Mid/uptempo with an interesting sense of both loss and hope.
